Understanding the Structure and Governance of the Anglican Church in North America is written in the fourteenth year of the unfolding life of the Anglican Church in North America. It is written by the founding Archbishop, with the encouragement of many of the other founders, both lay and ordained, to help a new generation of leaders and people understand the principles on which the ACNA was founded, and especially the subsidiarity paradigm which is its modus vivendi. Because so many emerging leaders were not part of the global reformation of Anglicanism that gave birth to the ACNA, or have come into the Anglican Way from other traditions with either the centralized (hierarchical) or congregational (independent) paradigm, this tract seemed an urgent necessity.
